Quiz Application for the iPod touch/iPhone

Overview

In my interaction design course, our team designed a quiz application for the iPod touch/iPhone. The application is targeted for serious self-learners. Questions range from five different categories. Each vary in difficulty: Science, Art & Literature, Foreign Languages, World History, and Geography. Similiar to the GRE scoring scale, at the beginning of each quiz, the application presents a question in the middle range of difficulty. If the question is answered correctly, the next question will be harder, and the score will adjust upwards. If the question is answered incorrectly, the next question will be easier, and the score will adjust downwards.

Process

User Research
We began our process by investigating mobile computing learning environments to familiarize ourselves with the design space and studied examples of adaptive tests on mobile devices. The results from the user interviews, guided the creation of our personas and scenarios which informed our design process.

Generating Concepts and Testing Ideas
From our insights, several concepts were produced, in which we narrowed down to one idea. We evaluated our visual comps by conducting usability testing with iPhone users and non-iPhone users. Evaluation indicated to "design for predicatability", so users can access and respond to content easily in mobile situations.

Design

Our design used the existing iPod touch/iPhone interaction models. One tap on the answer to select and a second tap to unselect. Once the answer(s) are submitted, feedback was provided, indicating which answer selections were correct.
