Yamaha TENORI-ON is available

Categories: data visualization, design

I’ve always been fascinated with information visualization combined with audio. When I heard of the Yamaha’s TENORI-ON two years ago Engadget I was anticipating its commercial release. Years later the product officially launched in UK last month and is available for sale.

This new musical interface, created by Toshio Iwai, combines light and sound consists of a unique touch-sensitive 16 x 16 color LED button matrix that provides a visual feedback loop with its musical performance.

Unfortunately, there is one major factor that my diminished my interest in the TENORI-ON rather quickly… price. The device is planned to be sold only in the UK for a list price of £599 (approx. $1200 USD). Which is way too expensive for my taste. For those who are searching for a cheaper price, you can find a discounted item at Ebay for $835.00.
